Lighting P3 (c)

Three Point lighting system

Three point lighting is the standard lighting setup for interviews, which requires three lights to be positioned around the subject. The main light is called the key light, this is positioned in front of the subject to illuminate their face. However this on it's own causes shadows so to counteract this a side/fill light is used to balance the light evenly. Finally a back/hair light is used to illuminate the space behind the subject causing them to stand out.

My results:

For these images I set the ISO to 100 as we were shooting with bright lights, this also gives a less grainy finish to the photo. The ISO was complemented by the low aperture that allowed more light into the lens while also creating a shallow depth of field drawing the subject out of the background and drawing more emphasis to the face.

Chiaroscuro lighting

Chiaroscuro is used in photography to indicate extreme low-key and high-contrast lighting to create distinct areas of light and darkness. Chiaroscuro is created using a main light and a reflector to create the effect with the main light placed at a 45 degree angle to the subject. The reflector is placed close enough to the subject to illuminate the darker side of the face with half the amount of light from the main.
